Violet Mae Weaver died Dec. 21 after suffering a stroke. She was 79.
She was born March 14, 1930,.She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, three brothers, one sister, mother, father and grandson Tyler.
She is survived by her son Bud of Kingston; daughter Barb of Kingston; daughter Sue Fanning of San Jose, Calif.; daughter Sue Whiteside of North Carolina; seven grandchildren: Brenda Forrest of Crescent, Ore; Craig Allard of Kingston; Brian Fanning of Lathrop, Calif.; Paula Whiteside of North Carolina; Ray Whiteside of North Carolina; Charles Deese of North Carolina; Rodney Weaver of Kingston; and five great-grandchildren.
Weaver was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and often marched in parades carrying the flag. She was named Person of the Year by the Kingston Chamber of Commerce.
She and Ray started collecting food in their home 55 years ago. It was the Kingston VFW building for many years and is now known as the Kingston Food Bank.
Memorial services will be at the Redeemer United Methodist Church on Parcell Road at 1 p.m. Jan. 9.
