Virginia (Gina) Whiteley died Jan. 30. She was 73.
Whiteley was born to Leslie and Alice Mathews in Havre, Montana on Sept. 7, 1934.
She attended Washington State University and married William (Buz) Whiteley, Jr. in 1954. Whiteley raised three children and was active in many endeavors, including working as a lunch lady and classroom assistant at Suquamish Elementary, in the attendance office at North Kitsap High School, at the Kitsap County Herald, Edgren Insurance, Poulsbo Marketplace, the Suquamish Fire Department, and the Buz Whiteley Big Band. Whiteley was a Girl Scout leader and volunteered at the North Kitsap Fishline. She received the Golden Acorn Award, North Kitsap Citizen of the year award, earned a celestial navigation certificate from the U.S. Power Squadron, performed in many local vaudeville shows and was an accomplished boater. She was an active member of the Faith Episcopal Church in Kingston.
Whiteley is survived by her husband William (Buz) Whiteley, Jr.; sons William (Bill) (Vicki) Whiteley III of Poulsbo and David (Kathryn) Whiteley of Kenmore; daughter Ann (David) Holt of Bainbridge Island; sister Catherine Franklin of Poulsbo and eight grandchildren.
Remembrances may be made to the North Kitsap Fishline food bank at PO Box 1517, Poulsbo WA, 98370 or at 18916 3rd Ave. in Poulsbo. A celebration of life will be held from 2-6 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Poulsbo Yacht Club. Arrangements are being made by Cook Family Funeral Home.
