The partnership between the Kitsap Pumas and the Bremerton School District is a fine example of two entities coming together to efficiently provide a service to others.
It was a topic of discussion for some time, but now that the details have been worked out, it is official the pro soccer club will upgrade Bremerton High School’s Memorial Stadium in exchange for field usage. The planned improvements include an 11-foot-by-15-foot video scoreboard and 1,200 to 1,300 additional bleacher seats.
This is good news all around as not only does this allow the county’s newest and only pro soccer club to play at a central location in Kitsap, but it also brings in money from fans and improves the facility for Bremerton High School students.
More businesses and organizations should follow this lead, especially at a critical time such as this when it’s important to keep costs at a minimum. The newly formed soccer club has transformed into a full-fledged franchise, built from the ground up.
Kitsap youth also will benefit from the deal as the Pumas’ organizers have made a promise to work with the area’s clubs and school districts, offering summer camps and coaching clinics, among others.
With as much hard work that was put into this club, it’s encouraging to see its organizers weren’t met with a road block, as can sometimes happen when trying to turn a dream into reality.
A three-year deal with a three-year renewal option will allow the Kitsap Pumas to lay a foundation in Bremerton. Hopefully, one that will continue for years to come.
We applaud the franchise’s two-man team, Robin Waite and Ben Pecora, for their diligent work to bring the Pumas to Kitsap. The Bremerton School District should be recognized for its willingness to work with the franchise in agreement that this partnership is truly a benefit for all.
The Kitsap Pumas’ preseason doesn’t begin until April, but the organization is already off to a promising start. We hope those efforts are met with the same enthusiastic response from fans.
