Are you ready for this?
Now that we’ve elected the first black president in the United States, be prepared for the first woman president. She’ll be next.
Barack Obama will serve two terms regardless of what happens with the economy or the war because the media will continue its see no evil hear no evil speak no evil about him. Anything that goes wrong will be blamed on the Bush administrations.
He will be followed by President Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.
She will have been a New York senator for eight years, initially by appointment to fill the vacancy left by the departing Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State designate, and then by election.
Americans have been waiting since 1963 to make it up to the Kennedy family for the assassinations of JFK and RFK and this is their chance. Ted blew it at Chappaquiddick and none of the other Kennedys scattered around in public office has had the star power of their elders.
Young John would have been the likely successor, despite a rather lackluster career, because he was as handsome as his father and on his way to being as articulate. But fate dealt him out, leaving only Caroline who lives up to Joe Biden’s description of Obama as “articulate and bright and clean and nice-looking.”
And let’s not argue this time about the word clean. It has nothing to do with cleanliness. Everybody involved in politics knew exactly what Biden meant. In politics, clean means no scandal attached. No baggage.
The only problem Caroline will have is how to become President Kennedy instead of President Schlossberg, which is her married name. She will, I expect, do the Hillary Rodham Clinton bit and run the way all the other Kennedy offspring do, wearing the Kennedy name like a string of pearls. Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.
I don’t think another Democrat would dare run against her. Even Hillary, who would be 68. A better match would be Sarah Palin who would be 52. Caroline is 51 now, so she would be 59. But Sarah would have to survive eight years of attacks by the Democrats and the media aimed at keeping her in her place. The voters like her, but they don’t have that special feeling that they owe her anything the way they feel they owe the Kennedys.
Watch the books come out now about Caroline, the way they did about Obama. This is going to be a carefully planned campaign even without Ted so by the time the election is nigh, there will be nobody on the horizon except her. That’s the way it was supposed to be with Hillary, until Barack popped up, but Caroline won’t have to deal with a choice of first woman president or first black president the way Hillary did.
We’ve done it now with the first black president. The next black pol who aspires to be president is going to have to have something going for him besides looks and charm. Do you realize how little we know about Barack Obama?
Actually what do we know at this point about Caroline other than she’s a Kennedy who has lived a fairly private life and has not shown any great interest previously in being in politics rather than on the sidelines? I don’t know what she thinks about the death penalty or partial birth abortion or whether judges should follow the constitution or their social urges. We’ll find out, I’m sure.
You read it here first. The next president after Barack Obama will be Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.
