The death of Darla Murker leaves a great void in the heart of this community. She was much more than the executive director of the Silverdale Chamber of Commerce, she was, by far, one of Silverdale’s greatest supporters. Though we are not a city and have no mayor, Darla always served as the go-to person. She was a strong voice for Silverdale. A call to the Chamber often warranted a peppy, “Silverdale Chamber, this is Darla.” So many of us will miss that spirit.

There were many times when a story about Silverdale called for a quote or information. We called Darla. Whenever someone new to the area had a question about available services in Silverdale. They called Darla.

She helped transform the Chamber into a well-known, ever-growing organization. She touted the community at every available opportunity. Darla had been fighting endometrial cancer since 2003, but she never let it bring down that wonderful spunk of hers. She may have been undergoing treatment several times in recent years, yet she rarely missed an important Silverdale event or community meeting.

The loss of Darla Murker is a loss for Silverdale. To keep her memory alive, there are many things that can be done. Yet, there is only one that would truly mean the world to her. Keep your dollars local and keep Silverdale thriving.

To her family, friends and colleagues, may your memories of such a wonderful woman provide you the comfort you seek during such a difficult time.
