Regarding the impending closure of Buck’s A&W restauraunt in Port Orchard, many have expressed disappointment in the legal system and seem to have forgotten that there were two young women employed by this establishment that were victims of sexual harassment.
The manager employed by the Gehrings was found guilty of sexual assault. And while I do not know the intimate facts of the settlement agreement regarding the legal fees incurred by the plaintiffs, apparently they were agreed upon by all involved.
I suppose upwards of $750,000 in fees may seem a bit excessive, but perhaps if the Gehrings had had an insurance policy just for this sort of situation, they would not find themselves in this position.
I know of a few business owners that carry liability coverage for lawsuits, and while it may seem a monthly waste of precious business income, they are protected against lawsuits that may or may not be frivolous.
The Gehrings state that, should another party come along and purchase the business, they will have no hand in it.
If that happens, I will welcome the new owners. Surely they will be just as community-oriented.
Meanwhile, to all of you that feel this was an unfair situation, remember there are two young women that went to work every day and became the victims of unwanted sexual harassment.
Would you feel the same way if these women were your daughters?
