The North Kitsap Herald is entering its 114th year of publishing. The Herald was founded in 1901 by Peter and Josephine Iverson shortly after they arrived here from Norway via the Midwest. We’re proud of their groundbreaking legacy of leadership — Peter served as the second mayor of Poulsbo and as state senator from 1913-18; Josephine was a journalist at a time when newsrooms were largely the domain of men.
One hundred fourteen years later, we strive to carry on the Iversons’ legacy. Like them, we work to produce a Herald that is a catalyst for change, a reflection of the community it serves. (And, we’re proud that the glass ceiling in our publisher’s office was shattered long ago).
Many people subscribe to the North Kitsap Herald; others receive it free. We appreciate the support we get from our subscribers, and are putting additional emphasis on voluntarily paid subscriptions — that is, asking you to pay for your subscription.
We have every intention of continuing to be the city’s primary source of news close to home, with every page devoted just to North Kitsap County. Your subscription will help support our efforts to do that. (For those of you that have paid in the past, thank you. Your contribution has not gone unnoticed.)
Your yearly contribution of $25 can be made by mail using the address below or online through our secure server at northkitsapherald.com/subscribe (we take Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and PayPal) or by phone at 888-838-3000. By subscribing, you will be given additional advantages such as guaranteed delivery. Should something ever go wrong with your delivery, we will take care of the issue. If your paper ever shows up wet or damaged, or if it doesn’t show up at all, we will redeliver it for free. Just call us and we will send a driver out to your address with that edition.
Keeping up on local events is as important today as it was when Peter and Josephine Iverson published the Herald. This year, a majority of Poulsbo City Council and North Kitsap School Board positions will be on the ballot. The city is updating its comprehensive plan. With the changing seasons come special activities and special events. We are committed to bringing your community to you.
In the last 114 years, both the city and the North Kitsap Herald have come a long way. In addition to our handy, easy-to-read print edition, the North Kitsap Herald is continually looking for ways to connect you news in a timely and convenient way — on NorthKitsapHerald.com, Facebook, Twitter, mobile apps. There is no need to wait for election results, news of traffic snarls, or other breaking news that you need. You can get it online daily or in the print edition on Friday. Our job is to keep you informed when you need it most, in a way that works best for you at that moment.
We can’t do it alone. Consider paying for a subscription by sending a check, calling in your payment, or paying online.
While you’re doing that, we’ll be out there covering the city and the north end, bringing you news that is close to home.
One more thing — please support the Herald’s advertisers. Shop locally when you can and keep those local dollars in our local economy.
