CK Fire District within its rights to regulate
In response to “First private bridge weight limit sign go up” published Dec. 27:
Public health and safety is always the concern of government, whether for those residing along public or private roads.
On private roads, the government should require developers to submit bridge plans designed by a licensed structural engineer as a condition for the approval of their application for permits for subdivisions or a cluster of homes and other structures along a proposed private road.
This is how the government exercises its authority to fulfill its responsibility to protect the public health and safety of citizens and spare property owners the exorbitant cost of inspections and design calculation reviews by a licensed structural engineer.
The Central Kitsap Fire District is within its rights to be assured of the safety of its personnel and the protection of its equipment by requiring the certification of a bridge’s safety by a duly licensed structural engineer.
