If you want to know more about what’s going on in Kingston — and provide input that can help chart the course — there’s seldom been a better time than now.

Earlier meetings this month — on Sept. 2, 3 and 9 — focused on water quality and stream restoration, construction of the West Kingston Bridge over the Carpenter Creek Estuary and the Port of Kingston’s draft budget for 2016.

There are more opportunities to engage, participate and contribute. Here they are.

4-8 p.m. Sept. 15: Kitsap County Public Works staff and consultants will share the latest renderings and planning elements of the Kingston Complete Streets project, in the Kingston Community Center, 11212 NE Highway 104.

Input solicited last spring in a public meeting is reflected in revised conceptual plans, county volunteer coordinator Rebecca Pirtle reported.

The revised plans consider transportation policy, various means of getting around, parking, economic development and redevelopment. More information is available at www.kitsap gov.com/boards/CAC/kingston/kcac.htm.

7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 22: The Kingston Port Commission will review the preliminary port district budget for 2016, followed by a vote to approve. Time will be given for public comment.

6:30-9 p.m. Sept. 29: The Kingston Community Open House will take place at Kingston Middle School on West Kingston Road.

County departments — including public works, parks and community development — will have information on local projects. The Port of Kingston, schools, service organizations and other nonprofit groups will also have tables and will share information on upcoming programs and community events.

Registration is open for those wishing to reserve a booth for their organization at the Kingston Community Open House. Go to www.kitsapgov.com/volunteer/boards/KCACOpen HouseRegistrationForm.htm.

A community is a reflection of its residents — their values, their level of involvement. Judging by such grassroots projects as the Village Green, community involvement is part of Kingston’s culture. Be a part of the process and keep a good thing going.
