Little kids in Bremerton have it pretty good.

They may not realize it. Most kids are blissfully unaware when their school districts are bending over backwards for them, as it should be.

All day kindergarten classes, Spanish immersion curriculum, summer lunch programs, pre-kindergarten programs — these are not endeavors which immediately produce results on standardized tests.

They are ideas to benefit the long term, intended to create sustained rates of achievement.

They are, in other words, the right way to go.

Naval Avenue school Principal John Welsh, a former middle school educator, recently appointed to a federal early education task force, said it all in this week’s profile. (See story A1)

“It used to be very frustrating to see interventions that needed to happen in middle school that I see every day in elementary school,” Welsh told the Bremerton Patriot.

Bremerton kids, your sippy cup runneth over.
