In our opinion: Up around the bend

For those who love the blue skies and hot sun it’s disheartening. To think that the only guarantee we in Western Washington have of “summer” weather during summer is a two-week window.

Of course, this is not a Joe Namath guarantee. It’s probability. Not to burst your bubble, but the clouds and rain and cool temperatures don’t read Mass’ books.

As we enter the middle of July and have to don sweatshirts while sitting inside during the evening, two weeks of clear skies sounds pretty good.

Last summer was a dud, and this summer isn’t shaping up to be a scorcher. But there are a few facts to keep in mind that may make an anticlimactic start to summer more bearable.

-Southern California has great weather, but it’s in California.

-Camping in the cold and rain builds character.

-You will be saving money by keeping your boat under tarps. As well as sun screen and, for the next day, aloe vera lotion.

-No need for a whole new wardrobe.

-Much of the country is melting under an oppressive heat wave and would murder us if they heard any moaning about the mild weather.

So hold tight, in no time we will be able to complain about the heat.
