It’s a tough market, what do you expect?

Whenever services are cut, the first instinct for many is to get angry.

Whenever services are cut, the first instinct for many is to get angry.

Kitsap Transit announced another round of bus service cuts last week that will take effect in December. The cuts will no doubt have an impact on riders who depend on those routes. Unfortunately, budget-cutting is the name of the game right now. Hootin’ and hollerin’ isn’t going to change that fact.

The reality of the economic climate is hitting home for many local residents. For some, these transportation cuts might have a big impact while for others, they may not be personally affected at all. But in the end, if it affects one segment of the community, it affects us all.

While several Port Orchard routes are being cut, ACCESS service in the central part of the county is not being eliminated, but reduced. At least that service is still intact, reduced yes, but it could be worse.

We could all find ourselves in a better position if we spent as much energy on finding solutions as we do on ranting and raving. So your bus service was cut or reduced? Work on forming a carpool service with fellow coworkers or friends. Or ride your bike — you’ll be working on your waistline as you pedal to work — there’s two birds with one stone.

Getting angry at the inevitable or things we cannot control is a waste of valuable time and energy. Right now we all just need to hold on for the ride. No pun intended.
