Master plan needs

Lions Park is a wonderful park with play fields and access to the water. A big grant was awarded to the park and in order to get the money, a “master plan” had to be written. A lot of hard work went into this plan and there are many good features of the park. However, this master plan isn’t complete. A previous master plan was ignored. Soil studies, (especially important given the recent slide threatening nearby condos) and other things much of which were addressed in the previous master plan haven been thought about this time around.

A master plan is a lot of work and, undoubtedly, the old master plan needed a lot of revision, but instead of rewriting the master plan and ignoring the previous work, we should have built on it. Otherwise this master plan is just a grant spending plan, whose long-range plan is to hope for another grant after this one is spent; writing a new master plan, ignoring the input of neighbors and previous contributors. When neighbors work together in good faith building on each other’s ideas and knowledge, a better, more sustainable park will be in the making.

P.S.

The lights on the play field were on until 11:35 p.m. at least one night last year. I know this master plan says it has light control, but I bet the people who know how to control the lights will still keep them on as long as it takes to play their games. Saying you have light control doesn’t make it so.
