Retired Captain James M. Olsen, U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, my father, has been an outstanding role model of a dedicated citizen-sailor who served his country for 30 years. He demonstrated to me the importance of selfless public service combined with faithful dedication to his family, church and community. I believe he would serve as citizen-legislator with the same excellence and balance.

One key area where James Olsen has real-world experience in reform and transformation, was his participation in a major streamlining program for the Coast Guard where key core missions were combined with right-size manning of bases/facilities. The U.S. Coast Guard’s multi-year transformation was highly successful and James Olsen’s call for reform and transformation in Olympia builds on the unique experience.

Furthermore, he has the intelligence and passion to be a catalyst for bipartisan reform.

One other key attribute he has is a depth of understanding on a wide variety of policy matters. He is voracious reader on key issues, has outstanding negotiating skills and proven writing abilities. Finally, James Olsen has been a key mentor to me in my military career giving sound advice and sage wisdom on the ways of complicated organizations and competing interests. I firmly believe James Olsen is the right choice to serve the citizens of the 23rd LD, Position 2. He has my vote.
