KINGSTON — It all comes down to May 7 for the top three teams in the Olympic League.
The Kingston Buccaneers, North Kitsap Vikings and Sequim Wolves will play to determine who will be the league champions.
The three teams are tied with 13-2 records.
The Vikings and Wolves play at North Kitsap Stadium, while the Bucs host Port Townsend (5-10) at Buc Field.
The winner of the Vikings/Wolves game is guaranteed a first place finish in the league. The Bucs have a shot at tying for first if they defeat Port Townsend. If the Bucs lose to Port Townsend, the winner of the Vikings/Wolves game is the league champion and does not share the title.
“Our guys are very excited for our game against Sequim,” North Kitsap head coach Greg St. Peter wrote in an email. “Kingston, too, if we get another chance.
“We’re playing very well right now, which is perfect timing heading into the playoffs. I’m very proud of how well we have fought through injuries and managed to finish in the top three.
“Each of the three teams are capable of beat the other, win or lose, these games are a great opportunity to prepare us for the playoffs.”
The Bucs are in good shape to defeat Port Townsend. The first time the teams met on April 12, the Bucs handed their opponent a 7-1 beating. The Bucs have the added home advantage.
The Vikings and Wolves may have their work cut out for them. The last time the team’s played in Sequim, April 12, the Wolves defeated the Vikings 3-1. The Vikings will be looking for redemption, with a home advantage.
The three teams, and the Klahowya Eagles (9-7), are guaranteed district playoff appearances. The playoffs determine which teams advance to the 2A State tournament.
Before the playoffs, the four teams from the Olympic League will play in a seeding tournament to determine how the teams seed into the playoffs. The top two teams will host.
As of the morning of May 6, two teams were already awaiting their opponents in the playoffs. Tyee earned the #2 seed into the playoffs, and Foster earned the #4 seed. Tyee will play the No. 1 seed from the South Puget Sound League. Foster will play the No. 4 seed from the Olympic League.
