6 forfeits in each match cost Spartan wrestlers

Olympic and Bainbridge each won four matches in their wrestling match Dec. 18.

Unfortunately for the Spartans they couldn’t field wrestlers in six weight classes so those forfeits gave the Trojans 36 points on the way to a 60-19 victory. If both teams fielded full squads Olympic would have won by five.

For Bainbridge, Garrett Goade won with a technical fall after 5 minutes and 2 seconds while leading 25-8 at 190 pounds. River Gandee pinned Tyree Juneau in 3:24 at 120 pounds. Stephen McKinnon pinned Johannes Kaminanga in only 26 seconds at 120 pounds. At 144 pounds, Spartan Tyler Dodge beat Isaiah Masga by decision 10-4 in the closest matchup of the contest.

The Trojans won all four of their matches by pin. The match started off with Wesley Tebo pinning Enzo Roa in just 35 seconds at 165 pounds. At 215 pounds, Leasa Epenesa of Olympic pinned Sav Guerrero in 3:33. De’Nadre Jackson of Olympic beat Will O’Connell by fall in 1:32 at 106 pounds. Jackson Brown of Olympic pinned Omid Neghabat in 1:47 at 150 pounds.

The Spartans also lost to North Mason that evening 54-29. North Mason also won six matches by forfeit, while the Spartans won one match with a bye, so if both teams were able to field full teams BHS actually would have won by five points.

Goade won by another technical fall 22-6 in 3:51. Guerrero also won with a pin in only 53 seconds. Gandee was pinned in just 45 seconds. McKinnon, wrestling this match at 138 pounds, won by pin in 1:35. Dodge then won by pin in 3:54. Neghabat lost by pin in 3:23. Roa also lost by pin, in just 35 seconds.
