Bainbridge, Bremerton swimmers qualify for state

Although Bainbridge’s girls swim team defeated Bremerton 129-33, both teams had times that qualified multiple swimmers for the district and state championships.

Spartans qualified 24 swimmers for the district championships and three swimmers and a relay team for state.

May Peterson, Sophie Sergerson, Kathryn Houseman and Emma Solseng earned a school record in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1 minute, 48.78 seconds, six seconds under the state requirement.

Sergerson shaved nearly three seconds off her personal record to qualify for state in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.21. Peterson already qualified for state in the 50-yard free earlier this season. However, she shaved half of a second from her personal best with a time of 24.38 seconds.

Peterson continued to dominate in the pool, finishing with a 57.27 second time.

In addition, the Spartans had a swimmer qualify for state or districts in 12 of 19 heats in the meet.

On the flip side, Bremerton had a district or state time in six events.

Gabbie Patti headlined the Knights’ performance after qualifying for state in the 50-yard free and 100-yard breaststroke, and qualifying for districts in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay.

Knights’ Araya Mitchell qualified for districts in the 50-yard free. In addition, Bremerton’s 200-yard medley relay team, Brooklyn Parker, Cami Tealdi, Sandie De Moura and Anavae Brooks, qualified for districts.
