Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell of Washington and Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., wagered beer and cheese from their respective states as the Seattle Seahawks prepare to face the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game Jan. 18, at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
Murray and Cantwell have offered Rainier and Red Hook beer and Cougar Gold cheese from the Washington State University creamery; Baldwin has staked New Glarus Spotted Cow beer, Sprecher root beer and Renard’s cheese curds.
“The Packers may pride themselves on winning on Wisconsin’s frozen tundra, but the truth is that the 12th Man provides the greatest home field advantage in the NFL,” Murray and Cantwell said in a joint statement issued by their offices. “It might be cold in Green Bay, but it’s loud in Seattle, and we’re looking forward to a Seahawks win and some Wisconsin beer and cheese courtesy of Senator Baldwin.”
Baldwin said, “The only thing 12 represents is the number of the best quarterback in the NFL — Aaron Rodgers. While the Seahawks may be reigning Super Bowl champs, the Packers are poised to claim victory this Sunday and come one step closer to bringing our fifth Vince Lombardi Trophy home to Titletown, USA.”
