A bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 8th inning would help propel the Kitsap BlueJackets to a 2-1 non-league victory over the West Coast Guns June 3.
Joe Galindo got the inning going in the 8th with a one-out base hit. Aaron Ping would then walk, followed by Colby Brown reaching on a bobble error at second base by the Guns.
With the bases loaded, Caylen Clardy would work a full count against Guns reliever Joe Siegel. The right-hander would miss the zone on the next pitch as well, walking home what would turn out to be the game-winning run.
Siegel would be saddled with the loss.
The story of the ballgame for the BlueJackets was strong pitching and fielding.
Starter Tyler Omlid worked three innings, allowing just one run on one hit, walking one and striking out a batter.
Sam Norman, Nate Simmons and John Oltman then combined for six shutout innings out of the bullpen, yielding eight strikeouts between themselves.
Oltman would be credited with the win for his two scoreless innings, striking out three Guns batsmen.
Kitsap started the offense early on Wednesday, with Justin Beck reaching on a single with one out in the first. Beck then stole second, eventually scoring on a Brett Bautista RBI single.
The Guns lone run came in the second inning after leadoff hitter Diego Grant reached on a base hit, moving to second on a passed ball. Grant would score after a rundown between first and second with the trail runner D’Andrey VanSlyke, which allowed him to score all the way from second.
The San Jose State duo of Brett Bautista and Beck would combine for five of the nine hits for the BlueJackets on the night, with Bautista contributing three singles and Beck a single, double and the run in the first.
