POULSBO — Three North Kitsap High School athletes have been honored for their achievements.
Bryana Bohl and TJ Reitan are recipients of the Joe Shandera Award. Indigo Williams earned the Alice Wood Memorial Scholarship.
The $500 scholarship awarded to Williams is given annually to a North Kitsap girls basketball player.
Williams was nominated by her teammates based on the following attributes: leadership, unselfishness, team player, work ethic and friendship.
Along with her achievements on the court, Williams was a top competitor in volleyball and on the track. During the winter sports season, Williams and the North Kitsap volleyball team made their way to state for the first time in program history. More recently, Williams and three other athletes from NK’s track team took home gold after winning the 4×100 Relay with a time of 48.49, May 28.
Eleven students were nominated for the Joe Shandera Award, but it was Bohl and Reitan who topped the list.
Like Williams, Bohl played a part in NK’s trip to the state tournament as one of the tennis team’s captains. On May 28, Bohl and doubles teammate Kelsey Grunigen took third place in the 2A state tennis tournament — 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 against Interlake’s Chelsea Bucklin and Amy Yasutake.
Reitan, along with competing on the NK boys basketball team, more recently helped the baseball team make its way to the playoffs. However, the team would not make it to the state tournament.
Reitan’s baseball season ended with a record of 15 hits in 39 at bats, 13 RBIs and a .385 average. His pitching stats included 21 strikeouts out of 28.3 innings pitched, for a 1.48 ERA and a 6-1 record.
