Bremerton High School senior basketball player Terrick McGhee signed a letter of intent Monday to play basketball next season at Highline Community College.

The 5-foot-9-inch guard averaged 10.6 points and 1.5 steals per game in 2009, helping the Knights to the Class 3A state tournament for the first time since 1999.

McGhee, who also plays football, is the second Bremerton basketball player from the class of 2009 to sign with a college for next season. Fellow senior Jarell Flora is headed to Seattle University to play under coach Cameron Dollar.

Kitsap Pumas

In their May 15 home opener at Bremerton Memorial Stadium, the Kitsap Pumas beat division rival Tacoma Tide FC to take a 3-0 victory. Mark Lee, Cameron Hepple and Nik Besagno scored goals.

The win boosted Kitsap’s record to 3-0-0, and the team has not allowed a goal since a preseason match against the Portland Timbers U23 team in early April.

“We’re getting better,” coach Peter Fewing said. “We’re getting more comfortable, starting to settle down and find our rhythm.”

The Pumas play their next game at 7:30 p.m. May 22 at home against Seattle’s Washington Crossfire.
