Crosspoint’s Mosey signs with Montana Western

Crosspoint Academy senior Breyenne Mosey signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Montana Western women’s basketball team, the college announced last week.

Mosey, a 6-foot-2 post player from Bremerton, averaged 16.3 points and 13.3 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game for the Class 2B Warriors this season.

Last month, she was also named to the all-Sea-Tac League’s first team. Mosey earned league honors in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Crosspoint went 13-9 overall, 7-5 against the league last season.

Montana Western is a member school of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Bulldogs, coached by Cara Cocchiarella, play in the Frontier Conference. Chloe Mosey, Breyenne’s older sister and 2007 graduate of Crosspoint, is currently a senior basketball standout at Montana Western.

Another hat trick for Bastien, another win for Klahowya

Kevin Bastien continues to lead the Klahowya Secondary School boys lacrosse team, scoring his fifth hat trick en route to a 9-2 win against Port Angeles High School April 20.

Klahowya, which played the home game at Central Kitsap Junior High School, improved to 6-2 with the win under Hall of Fame coach Rob Hawley (pictured). Jeff Haga and John Wolfram collected a combined 10 ground balls for the Eagles’ defense. Klahowya’s Nehemiah Salo tallied three saves.

ISPN to air Rangers game

Kevin Mac will broadcast live coverage of the ISPN Sports Show from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday with highlights and interviews from the past week of high school sports on www.ispnsports.com. Mac will also feature Olympic College athletics.

The show will include highlights and interviews from Rangers players and coaches. The network is scheduled to broadcast Olympic College’s baseball game against Bellevue College at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

Klahowya girls lacrosse remains undefeated

The Klahowya Secondary School girls lacrosse team has yet to lose.

The Eagles defeated North Kitsap High School 18-6 at Strawberry Field in Poulsbo April 21, improving to 8-0 under head coach Laurie Usher (pictured) this season.

Jacky Hennegan led the Eagles with six goals and three assists. Klahowya led 13-3 at half and the Vikings were unable to erase the late deficit.

Other Klahowya leaders included Ruthie Hawley, who scored three goals, and Anna Robinson who totaled two assists.

Katie Smiley, Rocki Winkler and Jordan Dixon scored two goals apiece. Hannah Erickson also tallied two assists.

Pumas partner with KMAS for live webcasts

The Kitsap Pumas will have all of its 2011 matches webcast live on the KMAS radio station’s website, the club announced April 21.

The station is owned by Olympic Broadcast and Media, which teams up with the Pumas for the first time when the season starts May 1 against Vancouver.

All webcasts can be found at www.kmas.com.

In addition, all matches will be available as podcasts or through listen-on-demand until the next game.

The station will air a weekly coaches show, which will also air on the Pumas’ official website, www.kitsappumas.com.

Eagles fastpitch beats North Kitsap

The Klahowya Secondary School fastpitch team defeated North Kitsap High School 11-7 April 22.

Emily Gorecki was the winning pitcher, while Emma Keller picked up the loss for the Vikings.

The Eagles were led by Morgan Euzarraga, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the victory. Kaylee Jankowski hit 2-for-3 with two RBI and Jacqui Hornbeck also tallied two RBI for Klahowya.

The two teams combined for five errors.

Klahowya scored all 11 of its runs in the fourth inning, and led 11-3 entering the seventh inning. North Kitsap scored four runs off the Eagles late, but it wasn’t enough to overpower Klahowya.

Former Trojan Gaeta earns wrestling honor

Former Olympic High School graduate and Central College (Iowa) junior wrestler Ivan Gaeta (pictured) earned a third varsity letter, this time for the 2011 season, the school announced April 26.

Gaeta, who is originally from Bremerton, received the honor at the team’s awards banquet.

He went 5-8 in the 184-pound weight class this season, including a title at the Knox Invitational, and an eighth-place finish in the gold division of the Augsburg Invitational. Gaeta is 23-25 at Central College.

Pumas change game time

The Kitsap Pumas’ match with Washington May 14, originally scheduled for 7 p.m., has been changed to 1 p.m.

The game will be played at Bremerton Memorial Stadium.

OC baseball stays alive in hunt for postseason

The Olympic College baseball team is still in contention for the postseason.

Despite losing nine straight games earlier this season, the Rangers are in fourth place in the North Division with a 5-7 league mark.

Olympic College (8-16-1) split a doubleheader with Douglas College (British Columbia) April 20. The Rangers won the first game 12-2, but lost 12-2 in the second contest.

The team split another series with a 2-0 loss and 3-1 win to Shoreline Community College April 16 and 17, respectively.

The Rangers close the season with games against Bellevue College, Edmonds and Everett community colleges.

Bellevue is currently in first place in the division, while Everett is second.

OC distance track team competes in Portland meet

The Olympic College distance track team continues to improve, even if the overall numbers don’t show it.

The Rangers men’s and women’s teams finished 21st and 16th, respectively, at the 2011 Lewis and Clark Invitational April 16 in Portland, Ore.

A total of 23 men’s and 20 women’s squads competed.

Rachel Feiring finished the 1,500-meter run in a season-best time of 5:11.51 minutes.

Meanwhile, Travis Thomas also scored a season-best time of 54.28 in the 400-meter dash. Other personal bests included Taylor Person’s run in the 400 run (1:06.89) and Irene Moore’s time in the 400 hurdles (1:08.87).

The Rangers, coached by Daryl Schruhl, will compete next at the Saint Martin’s Invitational hosted by Saint Martin’s University Saturday, April 30 in Lacey.

This season marks the first  in 30 years for the men’s team, while the women are competing for the first time in school history.

Bremerton girls tennis beats Olympic Trojans

The Bremerton High School girls tennis team defeated Olympic High School 4-3 Tuesday.

The doubles pairs of Emily Crossthwaite-Bria Mcginley, Brandi Vitalich-Morgan Estep and Danielle Prusaitis-Valerie Kruger helped the Trojans win three of four doubles matches.

Bremerton picked up one doubles win when Maelonni Howard and Abby Neil defeated Kaitlyn Bosshardt and Kaiti Flores 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-2.

The Knights won all three singles matches in the Olympic League meet. Breanna Casias defeated Olympic’s Zoe Reeve 6-4, 6-2, while Megan Arriolla beat Jessica McMullen 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3).

Ashley Chidester defeated Olympic’s Kristine Garcia 6-4, 6-2.

Bremerton plays North Mason High School next.
