Pumas continue unbeaten streak
The Kitsap Pumas still have a donut in the loss column.
North Sound was the latest squad to fall to the first-place Bremerton soccer team, which won 1-0 at Goddard Stadium last Sunday.
Kitsap midfielder Matt Friesen picked up the lone goal with a score in the 27th minute.
The SeaWolves, fifth in the Northwest Division, were unable to notch a goal past the Pumas’ defense.
The Pumas, meanwhile, improved to 5-0-1 with 16 points for the season. They have also recorded four shutouts, having allowed two goals in six games.
Kitsap’s next game is against the Portland Timbers U23 squad on the road Friday. Portland is the defending league champion. Game time is set for 11 a.m. Both teams recorded a 0-0 tie in their previous meeting last month.
The Premier Development League announced earlier this week that the winner of Friday’s game will advance to the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as a representative of the division.
If the two teams tie, they will settle the game in penalty kicks.
The Open Cup includes 40 teams from the five tiers of American professional soccer who faceoff in a tournament from June through October.
ISPN to air BlueJackets
Kevin Mac will broadcast live coverage of the ISPN Sports Show from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday with highlights and interviews from the past week of high school sports on www.ispnsports.com. The network is scheduled to broadcast the Kitsap BlueJackets’ baseball game against the Cowlitz Black Bears at 6 p.m. The three-game series runs from June 7-9. Kitsap County tennis season starts Saturday
The Kitsap County Tennis League starts its 38th season with an open-play Jamboree Saturday, June 4 at 9 a.m. The event will be hosted at the Bremerton High School, South Kitsap High School or Kitsap County Fairgrounds tennis courts.
The league costs $30 to join and includes matches on most Saturdays from June 4 to August 20.
Garguile wins state title
Crosspoint Academy sophomore Grace Garguile won the 400-meter track and field title at the Class 2B state championships last Saturday at Eastern Washington University.
The Warriors standout finished first with a time of 59.44 seconds.
He also placed third in the 100, which he won last year, with a time of 13.07.
The Crosspoint girls team finished 15th overall at the state championship meet.
Meanwhile, Jordan Cooper finished second in the 200 with a time of 22.94 for the boys squad.
Josh Thompson placed fourth and third in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, respectively.
The boys team placed 11th overall.
