KINGSTON — The Kingston and North Kitsap varsity teams had all but secured seeds to the West Central District III tournament before the final regular season games Feb. 8.
There are no real surprises that the boy’s and girl’s teams from both schools advanced to their respective post-season tournaments.
The Buccaneers girl’s team, however, was able to pull off one last upset to finish the regular season.
The Bucs defeated the Bremerton Knights at home Feb. 8. The fifth place Bucs sent the second place Knights home with a 50-46 loss.
The Bucs outscored the Knights 31-16 in the first half.
The Knights outscored the Bucs 30-19 in the second.
The win improved the Buccaneer record to 7-9 in the Olympic League.Now all four varsity teams are readying for the first round of the District tournament.
The Kingston girls play Renton at 7:45 p.m., Feb. 12 at Foss High School.
The North Kitsap Vikings, who won 51-39 over North Mason Feb. 8, prepare for Franklin Pierce in the District tournament. Tip off is 7:45 p.m., Feb. 12 at Lakes High School.
The boy’s varsity teams begin the tournament Feb. 13. Kingston plays Foster at 6 p.m. at Foss High School. North Kitsap plays after Kingston at 7:45 p.m. at Foss High School.
Teams in the first round of the District tournament are playing loser-out games. Those teams that advance have a shot at moving on to the State championships. Six of the 12 teams in the District tournament advance to State.
