POULSBO — Players from the Kingston Buccaneers and North Kitsap Vikings varsity teams filled the All-League selection this season.
Three players from both teams made the first team. Three players from Kingston also made second team; two from North Kitsap made second team. And each team had three honorable mentions.
North Kitsap’s Daniel Norberg was selected as MVP.
North Kitsap’s Nathan Foster received the Golden Boot award.
Of the players making the list, Kingston’s Nick Boles, Ross Burk and Tommy Nitchman made first team. Simon Campo, Ansel Hartman and Alex Worland made second team. Leo Hernandez, Moises Larios and Alex Newton received honorable mentions.
North Kitsap players Nathan Foster, Zane Pierce and Brady Sparrow made the first team. Henry Baldwin and Noah Harrel made second team. Tereg Matala-Alvarez, Christoph Richards and Ethan Schmitt received honorable mentions.
The Bucs and Vikes were two of three teams from the Olympic League to earn a state berth. The Olympic Trojans also made it to State. None of the Olympic League teams advanced to the second round of State. The Bucs lost 3-1 to Ridgefield at State; the Vikes lost 2-1 to Bellingham. The Vikes took second in the district tournament; the Bucs took fifth in the district tournament.
The Bucs and Vikes tied at the end of the season with 42 points. The rival teams played a tie-breaker playoff game to determine who seeded first to Districts.
Along with the player selections, Kingston coach Craig Smith shared the title of Coach of the Year with Olympic High School coach Steve Haggerty. The All-League team and coach of the year selections are voted on by coaches in the Olympic League.
