Clam Island Rowing is hosting the sixth annual Bill Richards Memorial Regatta Saturday, August 17 at 8 a.m. in Dyes Inlet at Silverdale Waterfront Park.
The regatta honors the legacy of Bill Richards, who was the Kitsap Rowing Association’s founding coach. He was a rower “instrumental in Bainbridge Island Rowing’s history with an event that focuses on fun, the camaraderie between rowing clubs, and celebrating the joy of rowing,” according to a press release.
Rowers from Clam Island Rowing, Bainbridge Island Rowing Club, and Kitsap Rowing Association will be participating in the event. All lineups will be “ham and egger”, which means mixed rowers from all clubs.
“This is a fun regatta and a great way for beginners and novice rowers to try racing,” the release states. “Bill Richards wanted everyone to row and feel the thrill of racing – as he would say, ‘no experience necessary.’”
Boats will be on the water by 8 a.m. For questions, contact Clam Island Rowing Program Director Bridget Burke at ksrf.rowing@gmail.com.
