It was another offensive explosion on August 1 at Kiger Stadium, with the Kitsap BlueJackets taking game two by a score of 14-7 over the Klamath Falls Gems.
Trailing 4-1, the BlueJackets would go on a furious rally with the bats, starting with a two-RBI double by Ryan Atkinson in the fourth to make it a 4-3 deficit.
A five run sixth inning allowed to the Kitsap bats did in Klamath Falls in the middle game of the three game set, with the home team not able to break all the way into the 8-4 BlueJackets lead.
The BlueJackets had offensive production throughout the lineup, including each member of batting order scoring at least one run.
Three Kitsap batsmen contributed four hit nights including Atkinson (3 RBI’s), Kyle Nobach (3 RBI’s) and Aaron Ping (2 RBI’s).
Colten Barnes (4-1) receives the win after going 6 1/3 innings and giving up seven hits, five walks and six runs, five earned. He struck out five on the evening.
Relief pitcher Jake Repavich (0-6) struggled over two innings, giving up five of the runs in two innings of work.
The 20 hits and 14 runs are both season highs for Kitsap.
The series finale between the Kitsap BlueJackets and the Klamath Falls Gems scheduled for August 2 was cancelled.
Nearby fires spread into the Klamath Basin area, creating air quality well below reasonable levels for physical activity of any kind.
As of 10:00 a.m. the air quality index in Klamath Falls was a 181, which is at the “unhealthy” level of the index.
The game will not be made up.
