VANCOUVER, B.C. — Members of the Bainbridge Island Dive Club, which includes divers from Kingston and Poulsbo, won four firsts and four seconds at the British Columbia Winter Provincial Championships, Feb. 20-22 at Vancouver Aquatic Centre.
Team members from Bainbridge, Kingston and Poulsbo competed on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards with some of Canada’s best age-group divers.
In the girls 11- to 12-year old division, Bryn Tiernan of Bainbridge Island placed ninth on the 1M with a score of 94.7, and eighth on the 3M board with a score of 90.8.
In the girls 14-15 division, Jackie Helmers of Poulsbo placed first on the 1M board with a score of 187.55 and second on the 3M board with a score of 214.30.
In the girls 16-18 division, Cammie Rouser of Kingston placed first on the 1M with a score of 305.45 and second on the 3M springboard with a score of 311.
In the boys 12-13 division, Henry Sauermann of Bainbridge Island took home two first-place blue ribbons, scoring 184.05 on the 1M and 221.25 on the 3M board.
In the boys 14-15 division, Duncan Platz of Poulsbo placed first on the 1M with a score of 220.25 and third on the 3M board with a score of 141.8
The newest member of the team, Noel Issa of Kingston, competed in the boys 16-18 division and placed second on the 1M and the 3M springboards with scores of 219 and 182.85 respectively. He earned the Coaches Award for his fine first-time performance.
Team members are looking forward to their next meet in Boise, Idaho in March and the U.S. Diving Regional Championships in Beaverton, Oregon in April.
