GIRLS TENNIS | South Kitsap’s Wilkins advances to districts

This marks the deepest the Wolves’ No. 1 singles player has advanced in playoffs

South Kitsap senior Emily Wilkins will advance to the Class 4A West Central/Southwest Bi-District Tournament for the first time.

She accomplished that by winning a loser-out match Saturday during the 4A Narrows League Tournament at Capitol City Tennis & Athletic Center in Tumwater and then lost 6-2, 6-2, against Bellarmine Prep’s Rachel Kadoshima in the third/fourth seeding match.

Wilkins will return for the two-day district tournament, which begins Friday, for an opportunity to qualify for the May 30-31 4A state championships in Hanford and the Tri-Cities.

“I’m very competitive so I think I have a good chance,” she said. “I know it’s going to be tough.”

Wilkins knows what she needs to work on to get there.

“I think the biggest thing I need to work on is my focus,” she said. “Toward the end of the match I get lazy and start thinking about other things.”
