Kingston edges Sequim, earns division title
The Kingston High baseball team edged out Sequim High Monday, 3-2. The Buccaneers (11-4 overall, 10-3 league) clinched the Class 2A Olympic League title with the win, ensuring them the No. 1 seed to the West Central District III tournament, beginning May 14 at Legion Field in Bremerton. Tyler Klopp recorded the win for the Bucs. Danny Orr and Stephen Gorman led the offense Monday. Gorman went 2-for-4 with a home run and Orr was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Bucs are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. today at district rival North Kitsap High.
North Kitsap ranked No. 3 in state
The North Kitsap High baseball team has earned a No. 3 ranking in Class 3A state high school baseball polls this week. The Vikings (17-0 overall) are the only undefeated team ranked in the top 10 in the state’s 3A class. They are scheduled to host district rival Kingston High at 4 p.m. today.
WRESTLING
Jake Velarde wins state championship, again
North Kitsap High freshman Jake Velarde took first place in the 119-pound division on Saturday at the Washington State Wrestling Association’s Greco-Roman state championships in Sedro Woolley. The win qualified Velarde, 15, to compete at the Greco-Roman Kids/Cadet Western Regional Tournament on June 22 in Pocatello, Idaho.

Kingston girls top Port Townsend
The Kingston High girls golf team topped Port Townsend High Monday, 68-44. Kingston’s Elle Sander earned medalist honors, shooting a 42 on the par-36 White Horse Golf Course in Kingston and earning 30 points.
Kingston boys lose to Port Townsend
The Kingston High boys golf team fell to Port Townsend High Monday, 102-88. Port Townsend’s Ronnie Harrell took medalist honors, shooting a 78 on the par-72 White Horse Golf Course in Kingston and earning 30 points.
The Kingston High boys and girls golf teams tee off at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Port Angeles High.
North Kitsap girls fall to Port Townsend
The North Kitsap High girls golf team fell to Port Townsend High Monday, 44-40. Port Townsend’s Jenny Grauberger took medalist honors, shooting a 47 on the par-36 White Horse Golf Course in Kingston and earning 25 points.
North Kitsap boys lose to Port Townsend
The North Kitsap High boys golf team lost to Port Townsend High Monday, 43-37. Port Townsend’s Ronnie Harrell took medalist honors, shooting a 40 on the par-36 White Horse Golf Course in Kingston and earning 14 points.
The North Kitsap boys and girls golf teams tee off at 2 p.m. today against Olympic High at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Bremerton.

North Kitsap boys fall to Gig Harbor
The North Kitsap boys lacrosse team fell to Gig Harbor Monday, 12-6. Duncan Hack led North Kitsap with two goals and six ground balls. Goalkeeper Chaz Zacharof had 12 saves. North Kitsap plays at 5 p.m. today at Port Angeles.
North Kitsap girls downed by Graham-Kapowsin
The North Kitsap girls lacrosse team lost to Graham-Kapowsin Monday, 8-4. Victoria Thomas and Danica Wilson led North Kitsap with two goals each. North Kitsap hosts Tahoma at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
