Basketball: Kingston boys top Bremerton, tie for first in league
The Kingston High School boys basketball team topped Bremerton High Friday, 73-70 in Bremerton. Zane Ravenholt led the Buccaneers with 25 points. Sam Byers had 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
With the win, Kingston (8-3 overall, 6-2 league) is now in a three-way tie for first place in the Olympic League, alongside Bremerton (6-4 overall) and North Mason (9-2 overall). Kingston plays at 7 p.m. tonight at Port Townsend.
Basketball: Kingston girls run past Bremerton
The Kingston High girls basketball team defeated Bremerton Friday, 56-32 in Kingston. Sophia Baetz led the Bucs with 19 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Amanda Carper added 10 points and six rebounds. Kingston (8-4 overall, 7-1 league) hosts Port Townsend at 7 p.m. tonight.
Gymnastics: North Kitsap takes 2nd at Edmonds meet, 1st at Kingston
The North Kitsap High School gymnastics team took second place in a field of six teams at a meet in Edmonds Saturday. The Vikings tallied 142.35 points in the competition, behind Bainbridge High, which won with 156.35 points. Kingston High placed fourth in the meet, with 119.15 points.
Kingston hosted North Kitsap and Port Angeles Monday at Zero Gravity Athletics in Suquamish. North Kitsap won the meet, with 146.6 points. Port Angeles took second with 130.75 points, and Kingston finished third with 129.25 points. North Kitsap’s Melissa Kunold scored the highest in all-around points, with 33.05. Teammates Lauren Wageman and Mckenna Elves placed second and third overall. Dana VanWyck of Kingston and Allison Hodgkin of Port Angeles rounded out the top five.
Kingston and North Kitsap compete again Jan. 29 at Bainbridge High.
Wrestling: Kingston places second at West Seattle Tournament
Five Kingston High wrestlers went undefeated in the West Seattle Tournament Saturday to take first place in their weight divisions and lead their team to a second-place finish. Benny McMullen (119 pounds), Michael Johnson (135), Sam English (145), Travis Schriner (189) and Freddy Rodolf (215) all finished first in their weight classes.
The Buccaneers scored 202 points as a team, behind Auburn High School’s 211. Kingston travels to Sequim Thursday for their next match. Competition begins at 7 p.m.
