Seven Kingston golfers move on in playoffs

Kingston High golfers Sam Fox and Elle Sander qualified for the Class 2A state tournament Tuesday, while five of their teammates will move on to districts next week. Fox shot a 78 to place second behind Sequim’s Ryan O’Mera at the Olympic League’s 2A division tournament at Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim. Sander shot an 85 and placed second behind Sequim’s Zoei Zbaraschuk. The state tournament will be May 24 and 25 at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.

Kingston’s Joe Stange, Dalton Ekler, Nick Byrns, Kyla Miedema and Katlyn Stuxness will move on to the West Central District III tournament May 18 at Eagle Pride Golf Course in Fort Lewis for a chance to qualify for state.

TENNIS

Kingston finishes undefeated

The Kingston High girls tennis team defeated Sequim High Tuesday, 6-1, to finish the 2010 season unbeaten. This corrects an earlier report that Kingston’s season ended Monday.

Singles: Kyla Hall (SQ) def. Austen Turner (K) 6-0, 6-1. Stephanie Fyfe (K) def. Anna Prorok (SQ) 7-6, 6-2. Anna Rushmer (K) def. Jessica DeFilippo (SQ) 6-0, 6-1.

Doubles: Olivia Guevara/Lindsey Wicklein (K) def. Stacy Hanson/Katrina Chun (SQ) 7-5, 7-6. Maddi Miller/Ericka Daniels (K) def. Serena Okamoto/Hillary Smith (SQ) 6-1, 6-2. Andrea Fladgard/Charlotte Kilborn (K) def. Elizabeth Shore/Hannah Smith (SQ) 6-1, 6-2. Kristi Mellum/Corinne Sudduth (K) def. Sarah Marble/Alice Hastings (SQ) no score reported.

BASEBALL

North Kitsap drops first playoff game

The North Kitsap High baseball team opened postseason play Tuesday against Enumclaw at Heritage Park in Puyallup. The Vikings fell in nine innings, 6-5. Starting pitcher Alex Smith allowed four runs in the first inning, but none in the next five. Austin Abrahamsen came in to pitch in the seventh inning and was credited with the loss. Mike Lucarelli got the win for Enumclaw. Lucarelli and fellow pitchers Marcus Madden and DJ Hitch struck out a total of 13 North Kitsap batters.

North Kitsap will play a loser-out game against Sumner High at 8 p.m. tonight at Heritage Park.
