Kingston shuts out North Kitsap

The Kingston High baseball team topped district rival North Kitsap Thursday, 4-0. It was the second loss in as many games for the Olympic League-champion Vikings (17-2 overall, 14-2 league). Josh Herrera recorded the win for the Buccaneers (13-4, 12-3). Stephen Gorman led Kingston’s offense, going 1-for-2 with a home run in the second inning.

North Kitsap begins postseason play May 11 at Heritage Field in Puyallup against an opponent to be determined.

Kingston hosts Olympic High at 4 p.m. today.

Vikings suffer first loss of season

The North Kitsap high boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday at Bremerton High. The Knights shut out the Vikings, 2-0. The two teams finished Olympic League play with a record of 9-1-1. Bremerton was awarded the league title.

“(We) played our worst game of the year at the wrong time,” North Kitsap coach Chris May said. “They outplayed us in every way from start to finish.”

The Vikings (12-1-2 overall) play a sub-district game at 7 p.m. Monday at home against North Thurston.

Kingston boys crowned division champs, Sander named all-league

The Kingston High boys golf team finished the 2010 season with an Olympic League record of 5-2 and were crowned champions of the league’s 2A division this week.

Kingston girls golf leader Elle Sander was named to the Olympic League’s all-league team this week. Sander finished the regular season with an average of 26.7 points per match, behind league MVP Zoey Zbaraschuk of Sequim, who averaged 32.4 points.

Kingston golfers will compete in the Olympic League tournament May 11 at the Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim.
