Kingston High School senior Bobby Reece III signed with Grand Canyon University Nov. 13.

“We’re super excited to have him,” GCU head coach R.C. LaHaye said.

“He’s going to be a great college wrestler.”

Reece is a three-time state wrestling champion with the Buccaneers. He will attempt to become the second four-time champion in the area this winter.

Grand Canyon University recently transitioned to the Western Athletic Conference, affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1. The university was formerly Division 2.

The university’s wrestling program started five years ago. There are about 30 wrestlers on the roster, but LaHaye looks to expand the team.

Reece has been coached primarily by his father, Bobby, who said his son has “been out of his league for two or three years.”

Reece plans to major in sports management.
