Kingston’s Gallagher named WIAA Athlete of the Week

KINGSTON — For his performance during Kingston’s 106.5-69.5 victory over Olympic at a dual meet on Jan. 11, swimmer Tim Gallagher was named an Athlete of the Week by the WIAA.

Gallagher won the 200-yard freestyle event with a state-qualifying time of 1:45.96. He also took part in an extremely close 500-yard freestyle race against Olympic’s Ross Burchell, in which he won by .20. Kingston head coach Mark VanHuis called it one of the best races he had ever seen in his time coaching high school swimming.

Gallagher won the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events, and also swam as part of winning 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.

For the second year in a row, Gallagher has also earned Ironman status, one of two Kingston swimmers to accomplish such a feat, meaning he has completed all eight individual events in a state-qualifying time.
