The Knights and Buccaneers girls basketball teams ended their seasons at Kingston Feb. 2 with Bremerton ending its season on a winning note with a 46-38 victory.

Although the Bucs kept it close, Bremerton’s full-court press gave Kingston issues throughout the game.

After winning the opening tip, Kingston’s Jayla Moon hit a three-point shot. However, Bremerton’s defense came into play, as the Knights went on a 10-point run. Jannisa Lizama led the early drive with five straight -points.

But Kingston responded with six-straight points to end the quarter, including a couple of free throws in the final seconds from Harmony Tyson.

Moon took a couple of free throws to start the second quarter as Bremerton coach Nancy Harris picked up a technical foul. Moon made one of them, but Bremerton’s defense clicked again in the first half of the second quarter, going on an 8-3 run to take a 21-13 lead. Heaven Thomas and Tulip Carter began to dominate underneath the rim for the Knights.

Even though Bremerton’s full-court defense was troublesome, Kingston broke through it a handful of times and scored. Kingston’s Tavyn Belgarde nailed a baseline jumper to end the half, cutting Bremerton’s lead to 22-21.

The teams battled in the third quarter with Annisa Mejia getting six points for the Knights, and four different Bucs scoring for the home team.

Bremerton extended its lead in the fourth quarter, going on a 13-1 run to jump ahead 41-29.

That was too much for the Bucs to overcome, but Moon tried to get Kingston within reach with a few baskets. The teams traded free throws at the end, including Moon nailing the final point of the season for either team. The Knights finish the season 5-11, and the Buccaneers finish 2-18.
