PORT ORCHARD — Only six wrestlers from North Kitsap participated in Saturday’s SK Invitational.

Anthony Lindfors made sure the Vikings didn’t go home without a win.

Lindfors earned a 4-2 win against Gig Harbor’s Jeff Nodvedt to earn the championship in the 160-pound classification. After a first-round bye because of a shortage of wrestlers in his weight, Lindfors won a 6-2 decision against Olympia’s Nico Garcia to advance to the championship.

He simply called it “a good weekend to end on.” Teammate Jeff Jones wished he felt the same. He lost a 22-15 decision against Kamiak’s Anthony Jacobson at 135. Jones felt he should’ve stayed more upright, which he believes would’ve led to some falls and reversals.

Instead, he trailed his competitor, who wore a black mask that gave him a resemblance to Darth Vader, for most of the match.

“It was a little bit of a distraction not being able to see his face,” Jones said.

He said he wanted to choose this invitational over the one at Klahowya because he felt the competition here was stronger. He said he performed well at the SK Invitational last year, which prepared him to wrestle at 140 in the Mat Classic. He started this season at 140, but went down to 135 for the 31st Central Kitsap Matman Classic on Jan. 12 and plans to remain at that weight.

Paul Coulter, who lost a 4-1 decision in the championship against Gig Harbor’s Jesse Chunn at 152 to finish second, was the Vikings’ other notable placer.
