With district tournaments looming, Central Kitsap, Olympic and Klahowya are gearing for deep postseason runs.
Highlights:
Cross country
Central Kitsap senior Shane Moskowitz captured his second consecutive district championship by winning Saturday’s Westside Classic at American Lake Golf Course.
Moskowitz, who won state track and field titles last spring in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, finished with a time of 15 minutes, 30.8 seconds, nearly 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Conner Peloquin of Gig Harbor (15:39.2).
The long-distance specialist finished second at the state cross country meet in 2008. His twin sister, Shannon, also qualified for state, finishing 26th to earn one of 30 spots on the girls side.
The state championships are Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
Volleyball
Central Kitsap secured a berth to the Class 4A West Central District III tournament with a fifth-place finish at the Narrows League Tournament at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma on Saturday.
The Lady Cougars defeated Shelton 3-0 in a loser-out match to open the day, then they defeated Wilson 3-1 in a match that determined fifth and sixth. Districts begin Friday at Kentwood High School, with CK facing the South Puget Sound League No. 4 seed at 1:45 p.m.
Olympic hosts North Thurston in a loser-out, winner-to-districts match at 7 p.m. Wednesday. A win would give the Lady Trojans a No. 3 seed to districts, which begin Friday.
Football
Both Olympic and Central Kitsap are headed to the playoffs after closing out the regular season with victories.
The 3A Trojans (6-3) defeated rival Bremerton 14-12 at Memorial Stadium Friday to secure their fourth straight victory. As the No. 4 seed from the combined Olympic/Western Cascade League, the Trojans face Union (8-1) on the road in the state preliminary round Friday.
Union, ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press state football poll, defeated Camas 35-31 Friday to earn the Greater St. Helens League No. 1 seed and a matchup with the Trojans.
Meanwhile, 4A Central Kitsap faces Wesco South No. 2 seed Mountlake Terrace (6-3) in the preliminary round.
The Cougars (6-3), who have won their past three games, would advance to the Round of 16 as the District 1 No. 3 seed with a victory in prelims.
Girls soccer
Central Kitsap faces Olympia in a loser-out, winner-to-districts match at 6:30 p.m. today at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. The Lady Cougars avoided elimination with a 2-0 victory over Shelton Saturday.
Olympic hosts Timberline at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Silverdale Stadium with the winner earning the OWL No. 3 seed to districts and the loser being eliminated.
And Klahowya, a No. 1 seed, hosts an opponent yet to be determined in a district game Nov. 7 at Silverdale Stadium. The Lady Eagles would secure a No. 1 seed to the 2A state playoffs with a victory.
