The North Kitsap Vikings hosted the Bainbridge Spartans fastpitch team under cold and wet conditions March 23. Since the Vikings dominated early and often, both sides agreed to call the game after three innings, giving North Kitsap an official 22-1 victory.
Although the game ended, both sides continued to compete with several underclassmen and reserves taking the field. However, in the three innings, North Kitsap scored nine innings in the first and second inning, and four runs in the third.
Rollins Anderson started on the mound for the Spartans. The Vikings took advantage early with three walks, six singles or doubles, a sacrifice fly and a three-run home run from Cerenity Fake.
Fake stepped onto the mound and dominated as well. In her three innings pitched, she gave up four hits and an earned run. She stepped up to the plate in the second inning and hit a grand slam too.
After taking an 18-0 lead, Spartans’ Abigail Peterson hit a single to start the third inning. Sofia Peato followed up with a double with no outs. Lena Dozeman grounded out to the first baseman but picked up a run for the Spartans.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Vikings picked up four more runs from a pair of doubles and singles. As the massive downpour came from the sky and the scoreboard, both sides mutually agreed the game was officially over. Yet, both teams went to the benches and continued to play. As the sun came out, both teams played a much closer unofficial game.
