NK senior athletes end season in style

North Kitsap went above and beyond for its senior athletes this year. While most high schools host a large signing day event for those going on to play in college, the Vikings held a senior athlete breakfast before school began May 31.

The North Kitsap Athletic Boosters Club and Liberty Bay Auto teamed up to give kids pancakes, eggs, sausages, fruit and drinks.

“Thank you for being good teammates, representing North well, being a part of the community, and we are super proud of you,” booster parent Callie Gillespie said.

Several seniors in every sport were in attendance; 14 are going to play in college.

Afterward, some of the seniors joined their teams that placed third or better at state for a parade around campus.

“We are just trying to bring life to the campus and having the kids recognized brings the community together,” outgoing athletic director Anh Tran said. “It’s hard to explain but they love seeing the local kids doing great things. Having the community behind you while sending them off is a good look.”
