North Kitsap won the 2A state boys tennis tournament May 25 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Garrett Little made the finals, the doubles team of Justin Gallant and Mason Repp finished second, Mason Chmielewski-Spencer Gillespie were third, and Grady DeVries-Owen Wilkinson were fifth for the boys. For the girls Teegan DeVries was second.
Little swept his first opponent 6-1, 6-2 and won 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 in the second match. He won his semifinal match on the second day 6-2, 6-3.
Teammate Indigo Gallagher-Zapf struggled on the first day, being swept 6-0, 6-2 in his first match and 6-1, 6-4 in his second match to be eliminated.
Gallant-Repp finished second in the 2A boys doubles bracket. They won their first match 6-2, 6-1 and second match 6-3, 6-4. They won their semifinal match on the second day 7-6, 6-2 to reach the finals.
Chmielewski-Gillespie were on the other side of the bracket in the semifinals. They won their first match 6-0, 6-0 and their second 6-1, 6-0. But they fell in the semifinals 6-7, 2-6. The Viking duo secured third place after winning their final match 6-2, 6-3.
DeVries-Wilkinson lost their first match 6-3, 3-6, 7-6. They responded with a 6-2, 6-0 victory and a 6-2, 6-4 victory to reach the fifth-place match. They secured fifth after winning 6-2, 6-3.
DeVries finished second in the girls 2A singles state championship, falling 3-6, 5-7. She came off her first day with a 6-1, 6-2 victory and 6-2, 6-2 win. DeVries stepped up on the second day, winning her semifinal match 6-0, 6-0.
Bremerton’s Joseph Cao was swept in his first match 6-2, 6-2. He fell short in a tiebreaker in the consolations, losing 5-7, 6-2, 4-10.

Bainbridge and Central Kitsap traveled to the Vancouver Tennis Center to compete in the 3A state tennis tournament.
Spartans Aidan McLennan and Charlie Combs won their first doubles match in two sets. But the duo was swept in the quarterfinals and dropped to the consolation bracket, where they were swept again.
On the girls side, Malia Lemieux and Elle Schuchman won their first match in two sets but lost in the quarterfinals in two sets. They lost their first match of the second day 6-7, 3-6.
Central Kitsap’s Kai Junior lost both of his matches in two sets.
