It was a tough year for wrestling with much lower participation numbers and an Olympic League wrestling tournament that ended up being canceled, but a number of grapplers who persevered through the difficult season were rewarded this week with selections to the All-Olympic League team.
Numbers were down as the time of year for wrestling was changed from winter to late spring due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Bainbridge High School had a pair of representatives as Garrett Swanson, who qualified for the 3A Mat Classic in 2020, was the all-league pick at 106 pounds, while Caroline Michaels was named to the girls all-league squad at 155 pounds.
Kingston had two selections as well as Christa Sindel and Cori Everhart landed on the team in the 170 pound and 190 weight classes respectively.
Sofian Hammou of North Kitsap, who finished third at the Mat Classic at 220 pounds in 2020, was the league’s selection as the top heavyweight.
Central Kitsap dominated the selections with four on each team.
Of course there was no Mat Classic this year, also canceled due to COVID.
