North Kitsap Community Pool temporarily closed, high school swimmers forced to travel outside district

The North Kitsap Commmunity Pool shut down today due to a broken circulation pump.

A new pump is being shipped and the pool will remain closed until further notice, said district Communication Director Robyn Chastain.

The closure comes days before five students — four from North Kitsap and one from Kingston High — compete in the state swim meet at the King County Aquatic Center on Feb. 18.

Practice for the teams was canceled today, which was going to be the last strenuous workout before the meet, said Kingston head coach Samantha Cox.

For the rest of the week, practice will be held at the Olympic Aquatic Center, 2270 Schley Way. Cox said she reserved a few lanes at the center for North Kitsap and Kingston to practice in and the teams will travel together on a bus starting tomorrow.

“It’s lucky this happened at the end of the season,” she said.
