Viking gymnasts rock season opener
On Friday the Vikes gymnastics team traveled to Port Angeles for a three way competition with Kingston, and the Vikes rocked it, winning the meet by 50 points. North finished with a team total of 141.15, PA 93.65 and KHS 83.7.
“The girls did a great job for their first meet,” head coach Kris Goodfellow wrote in an e-mail. “There is still a lot of room for improvement.”
NK individual results: Vault, first, Melissa Kunold, score 8.5; second, Lauren Wageman, score 8.2; third, Mckenna Elves, score 8.15; and fourth Bryana Bohl, score 8.1. Bars: first, Kunold, score 7.8; second, Elves, score 7.6; fifth, Wageman, score 6.3; and sixth, Bohl, 6.2. Beam: first, Elves, score 8.6; second, Kunold, score 7.6; third, Bohl, score 7.3; and fourth, Wageman, score 7.0. Floor: first, Kunold, score 9.2; second, Elves, score 9.1; fifth, Wageman, score 7.5; and sixth, Bohl, score 7.4. All-around: first, Elves, 33.3; second, Kunold, 33.1; tie for third, Bohl and Wageman, 29.
On Friday the Vikings compete against Kingston and North Thurston at Capital.
Kingston gymnasts compete in first solo competition
Last year the Bucs and Vikings operated as a combined team, however, this year the Bucs are a tried and true Kingston- only squad. On Saturday the Bucs traveled to Port Angeles to compete against the Rough Riders and NK. The Bucs finished the meet in third with a team score of 83.7.
Individual places: Dana Van Wyck, fifth on beam, score 6.3, fifth on floor, score 7.0, fifth on vault, score 8.0, fourth on bars, score 6.4, and fifth all-around, score 27.7; Tori Gerken, seventh on floor, score 6.4, 10th on vault, score 7.6, and eighth place all-around, score 21; Marina Roberts, ninth on beam, score 4.95; Sam Trevino, 10th on bars, score 4.0.
On Friday the Bucs travel to Capital to compete against the Vikings and North Thurston. The Bucs first North Kitsap meet is Jan. 9.
Vikings girls basketball wins again.
On Friday the Vikes traveled to Bremerton and won by double digits, 54-25.
“Defense, rebounding and team work won this game for us,” head coach Bill Hobaugh wrote in an e-mail.
Stats: Delanee Nilles, 14 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and five steals; Darcey Hughes, 13 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and five steals; Sarah Baugh, nine rebounds; and Siara Byers four steals.
On Tuesday North traveled to Port Angeles, results of the game weren’t available at press time. On Thursday The Vikes host Central Kitsap and on Friday host inter-district rivals the Kingston Buccaneers, varsity game starts at 7 p.m., JV at 5:15 p.m.
Buc girls basketball suffers first loss
On Friday the Bucs traveled to Port Angeles and lost, 74-63.
Stats: Laura Wicklein, five rebounds, two steals and three assists; Megan Ramey, six rebounds, two steals, four assists and 10 points; Sophia Baetz, 27 points, three rebounds, three steals and one assist; Arissan Ugles, 17 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and four assists; Elle Sander, four points and four rebounds; and Elsa Brown, two points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Buc boys basketball tumbles in overtime
On Friday the Buccaneers traveled to Port Angeles and lost in overtime 62-57. The Bucs led 19-3 after the first quarter and kept the Rough Riders at bay until the final two minutes of the fourth quarter. But then PA bumped up the intensity and sank 31 fourth quarter points.
“We played some of our best basketball that night, but are still developing the mental toughness and experience needed to finish teams off,” head coach Tim Olson wrote in an e-mail. “We are not satisfied with a moral victory and will continue working hard to improve.”
