Kitsap Post 68 beats

Wolfpack — twice

Kitsap Post 68 Baseball Club wins two in a row against the South Kitsap Wolfpack.

Both games had identical scores of 11-1 in favor of Kitsap Post 68.

Game 1: Kitsap Post 68 scored 11 runs on 13 hits. Chris Jones pitched the first four innings, giving up one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts and zero walks. Josh Horst pitched the fifth and final inning and didn’t give up a hit, a run or a walk and tallied two strikeouts. James Smith caught all five innings.

First baseman Daniel Orr had two hits, two runs and one RBI, second baseman Kramer Uvila had two hits, including a double, two runs and an RBI, Smith had two hits, including a double and a home run, right fielder Jordan Green had two hits, two runs and two RBIs, center fielder Bradley Durham had two hits, including a triple, one run and two RBIs, short stop Reuben Smith had a double and one RBI, DH Kyle Murray had one hit, third baseman Robert Jordan hit a double and scored one run and left fielder Levi O’Hara-McLaren scored two runs.

Game 2: Kitsap Post 68 scored 11 runs on eight hits.

Jordan pitched the first two innings, giving up zero runs on two hits, Curtis Pitcher pitched the next two innings, giving up zero runs on zero hits with six strikeouts, Smith pitched the fifth and final inning, giving up one unearned run on zero hits and two strikeouts. Josh Horst caught the first three innings, and Seth Green caught the final two.

NK track makes a mark at state

Sophomore sprinting sensation Siara Byers placed seventh in the 100-meter dash at the 4A state track and field meet last weekend in Pasco. She ran the race in 12.41 seconds. Senior middle-distance runner Ray Reedy placed 14th in the 800m with a time of 1:59.66. The girl’s 4×200-relay of Madi Taylor,

Melissa Kunold, Alison Howe and Byers placed 11th with a time of 1:47.29.

NKHS names new girl’s soccer coach

H. Dee Taylor, a five-time coach of the year who has coached state champion teams in Alaska, Oregon and Washington, will be the new coach of the girl’s soccer program at North Kitsap High School. His accomplishments include: U.S.Y.S.A. coach of the Year, Region 4, 2002, Alaska State coach of the Year, 2002, Northern Lights Soccer Club, coach of the year, 2000, High School District coach of the year 1984, and High School League coach of the year, 2005.

In addition to extensive club and Olympic Development Program coaching, Taylor has also been a successful high school head coach in Port Townsend and Eugene, Oregon. He is also an invited coach for numerous clubs and teams in Alaska, Washington and Oregon. He played varsity soccer at the University of Oregon and also semi-professional soccer.

Chisholm hosts basketball camps

The North Kitsap Athletic Boosters Club presents Chisholm’s Challenge 2008 boys and girls basketball camps. The cost is $85 per camper per camp. There are four camps in all with sessions for ninth- through 12-graders and fifth through eighth-graders. The camps run June 9-13, June 23-27, July 7-11 and July 21-25. Registration flyers will be available for pickup at the Sport Haus in Poulsbo or from coach Tony Chisholm at NKHS starting April 7. Open registration for the North Kitsap Pee Wee Association’s youth football program will take place in Kingston this May

31-June 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the May 31 signup will be at the Rite Aid Pharmacy located at the corner of Miller Bay Road and Highway 104.

On June 1 registration will be at Kingston Lumber. The program includes football and cheerleading and is open to boys and girls ages 5-14. Early registration fees, before June 15, are $110 for football players age 7 and older, and $60 for flag football

ages 6 and younger. The Pee Wees will be expanding to Kingston this year, including games at the new Kingston High School field. For more information go to www.nkpeewees.org or www.kingstonfootball.com.

Kingston Boosters host basketball camp

A fundamental skill building basketball camp for girls in grades five through 12 will be held in the Kingston High School gym June 30 through July 3. Every player at this basketball camp will develop shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defense skills in addition to learning the other life lessons of teamwork, dedication, focus and sportsmanship. The camp for students in grades five through eight runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the camp for students in grades nine through 12 will be from 2-6 p.m. The camp costs $90, which includes a basketball for eighth grade and under and a T-shirt for ninth through 12 grade participants. A $10 discount is offered for each additional child per registering family.
