It was an ugly game

On Wednesday Kitsap Baseball Post 68 lost an “ugly game” to Olympia’s Budd Bay, 15-7. Ugly because the Post had nine errors and Budd Bay had four. Chris Jones, Kyle Murray and Robert Jordan pitched and Jamaal Smith caught. From the plate: Kramer Uvila, two hits; James Smith, one hit a homer and two RBI; Jordan Green, two hits including a double and one RBI; Bradely Durham and Murray each had an RBI.

The Post has a 24-7-1 record. Today at 3 p.m. the Post plays a double-header against the Northwest Titans. Regional tournament play begins on Wednesday.

Run for the pool

Tomorrow the Save Our Pool organizers and Poulsbo Running will host a 5k fun run, with all proceeds benefitting the Save Our Pool fund. Early registration is $20. Runners can register at Poulsbo Running, 10th Ave NE #101 (next to Central Market.) Day of registration is $25. Registration includes a T-shirt. The run is in Port Gamble and begins at 9 a.m. with registration at 8 a.m. Additional donations are accepted and tax deductible. Poulsbo wrestler

earns national title

Poulsbo Middle School wrestler Jake Velarde attended the USA Wrestling’s Freestyle and Greco National Championships July 2-5 in Orem, Utah. Velarde returned home as a national champion in Greco-Roman, and he also placed second in freestyle. Adam Burchett, who wrestled for Klahowya Secondary School, earned a national title in freestyle, and placed third in Greco-Roman. Both boys belong to the Northwest Washington Wrestling Club that practices at the Kitsap County Fairground.

perform well at Junior Olympics

Rising Kingston High freshman Kace Ugles won gold in the red belt weight division. This is Kace’s third gold medal during his culmination of national Junior Olympic competitions. Rising KHS senior Arissan Ugles, competing in the 14-17 year old black belt division, earned a bronze medal, as she lost a close bout to the reigning junior national champion. The two are now training for a month at Beijing’s Shichahai Sport School. During their time in China they’ll have an opportunity to attend the Olympic Games.
