“PORT ANGELES – The North Kitsap High School Swimming and Diving Team took third place at the Olympic League Championships on Jan. 19. The Vikings also managed to earn 41 individual bests while they were racing for the lead. North Kitsap scored 214 team points, beating Central Kitsap by a margin of 45 but falling to Bainbridge, who took first, and Port Angeles, who took second. We had a tremendous set of times, said coach Greg Braun. They were just fired up. The team, Braun said, was hoping to top Port Angeles, but fell short. We were hoping to beat P.A. for second, Braun said, but after tying them and losing by two (points), we knew it would be tough. The Vikings haven’t had any swimmers or divers qualify for state yet, Braun said, but several have come close, including the 200 free relay team, who came within 1.2 seconds of making the state time last Friday. Next, Braun said, the team will turn its attention to qualifying. That’s going to be a really big focus, Braun said. everything’s got to be clicking on that day. All four swimmers need to have their best swims that day. “
