State title hopes alive for local teams, athletes; It is, perhaps, not editorializing to say this sports season will long be remembered and talked about.

It is, perhaps, not editorializing to say this sports season will long be remembered and talked about.

As you read this, several Bremerton and Central Kitsap sports teams and individual athletes have advanced in the postseason to district and state tournaments. And several athletes are leading their leagues in performance.

Baseball: Central Kitsap, which finished the regular season 13-1, 22-2 to win the 3A Narrows League title, won the 3A West Central/Southwest District Baseball Tournament with a 12-2 win over Peninsula and 10-5 win over Auburn Mountainview May 7, and a 3-2 win over Columbia River and 8-4 win over Kelso May 14. CK faces Lynnwood in the first round of the WIAA 3A State Baseball Tournament 1 p.m. May 21 at Rister Stadium in Kelso.

Lacrosse: Klahowya hosts Richland in the state Division II quarterfinal game 1 p.m. May 21.

Softball: Olympic faces White River in the first round of the 2A West Central/SeaKing Softball Tournament, noon May 20 at Sprinker Fields in Tacoma. The top six teams in the tournament advance to regionals.

Central Kitsap faces Hazen in the first round of the 3A West Central/Southwest District Softball Tournament 10 a.m. May 20 at Sprinker Fields.

Girls Tennis: Central Kitsap competes against seven other teams in round one of the 3A West Central District Tournament May 21 at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma. Round two is on May 22.

Track and Field: Central Kitsap competes in the 3A West Central/Southwest Bi-District Meet 3:30 p.m. May 20 and 11 a.m. May 21 at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner. Next: the state meet May 26-27 at Mount Tahoma High School.

Bremerton and Olympic compete in the 2A West Central District Meet 3 p.m. May 20 and 10 a.m. May 21 at Memorial Stadium in Bremerton. Next: the state meet May 26-27 at Mount Tahoma High School.

Klahowya competes in the 1A West Central District Meet 3 p.m. May 20 and 10 a.m. May 21 at Memorial Stadium in Bremerton. Next: the state meet May 26-27 at Eastern Washington University.

NOTEBOOK: Keshun McGee of Olympic is the state 2A State Meet record-holder in long jump (23-41/2, 2015) … Klahowya’s Joe Hawley is first in assists (54) and third in goals (51) in the 74-team Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association. Austin Keller is fourth in assists (20) and ninth in goals (38). Torsten Robinson is seventh in ground-ball recovery (94). Goalie Kyle Bergmann is third in save percentage (.587).
