POULSBO — Corinne Wurden earned an individual All-Academic honor for the 2013 tennis season from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently.

Wurden is one of seven individuals with the Seattle University varsity tennis program that earned the honor.

The women’s team also earned the team All-Academic honor.

“We are extremely proud of the men’s and women’s tennis teams and seven individuals honored as a part of the ITA All-Academic team,” said Erin Engelhardt, assistant athletic director for student-athlete support. “Both programs excelled in the classroom during the 2012-13 academic year, led by four outstanding seniors who appear on this prestigious list.”

In order to receive an All-Academic award, student-athletes must letter on the varsity team, have a GPA of 3.5 or above, and be enrolled for at least two semesters prior. A team can earn an All-Academic award with a combined GPA of 3.2, and all athletes must letter in varsity.

Other individual recipients of the All-Academic award from Seattle U. include men’s double players Flavio Malagutti (Rio Claro, Brazil) and Kyle Rapp (Encinitas, Calif.); and Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.), Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.), Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas), and Steffanie Mortera (Portland, Ore.) from the women’s team.

Wurden and the Seattle U. women’s team were also the recipients of the 2013 Team Mission Award. The team received the award during the Student-Athlete Awards Show in May.
