Powerlifting Challenge tests students’ limits

KINGSTON — Students from four schools tested their strength Wednesday in Kingston’s Powerlifting Competition.

The competition was held in the KHS gymnasium, where personal and school records were broken.

Highlights: Kingston’s Sam Byers broke his school record in the Hang Clean with a max of 358 pounds (10 reps of 275 pounds).

Kingston’s George Marinan outlifted Kingston’s Brady Sundquist for the top squat of the day at 496 pounds. Marinan’s squat was shy of his personal record of 527 pounds.

Marinan finished second to Byers in the Hang Clean with a lift of 311 pounds.; Olympic High School’s Caleb O’Halek benched 305 pounds for the best bench lift; Port Angele’s Nick Lasorsa took the pound-for-pound title with a three lift total of 847 in the Men’s 175 pound weight class.

Kingston’s Kayla Campbell was the only female to compete, lifting a combined total of 209 pounds in the squat, clean and bench press.

Two Kingston Middle School students competed: Mason Woodson, top squat at 242 pounds and Daniel Ockerman, top clean at 157.
